Several posts ago, I showed you my bedroom re~do all in soft pastels... lavenders, lilacs, soft pinks and roses... the only money I spent on it was for my Rachel Ashwell comforter set I showed
here, several toss pillows and flowers I showed
here... and a few odds~and~ends... most everything else I already had...

Probably about twenty~five years ago, Jack gave me my beautiful drop~leaf oak secretary desk you can see in the corner of my bedroom in the photo below... it's so pretty... but I wanted a new, softer look for it to match my dreamy new bedroom...

So... I decided to leave the drop~leaf down and went to work on softening it up... I wanted it to look serene and pretty, but still able to use it to sit in quiet solitude and write in my journal, hand~pen a thank you note... or just write my lists of to~do's each day...

I left the top of the desk the way I had it... beautiful Ormolu frames with my French ancestors photos in them... my great~grandfather's pocket watch... my antique French opera glasses... tresors I love to look at each day...

Inside... so soft and pretty now... a lace~tied little bundle of some of my vintage French books... a sparkly bird rests atop of them... a gift from my friend El...

A pretty little flowery journal and pen to jot down my thoughts...

Precious letters sent home from my daddy to my mama and my grandmother from France, Belgium, Germany and England where he was stationed during WWII...

Beautiful note cards, thank~you cards, gift tags and stationary fills the inside cubbyholes...

A very old sealing wax stamp from an estate sale years ago... now I want to get some sealing wax... I always used to seal my letters that way... so romantic and nostalgic...

Soft roses and my tiara... I am a self~appointed Princess, you know...

A sweet little birdnest adorned in dried roses from my garden, sitting on a vintage lace doily takes me back to a warm Spring day... natural bark pencils live in a vintage floraly creamer... ready to write down my latest finds from the trail in my nature journal...

A pretty little birdie paperweight my niece Liz gave me...

My treasured teacup my sister and I each got when we gave each other the "gift of time" last Christmas and spent the day taking tea at a beautiful tearoom in Salt Lake City, then browsing antiques shops afterwards... ready for a relaxing cup of Laduree tea Filly and Ellie brought me from London...

More sweet dried roses from my garden in a vintage purple pressed glass doorknob for a vase...

A cherished silver magnifying glass...

Always close to my heart...

Beautiful French candies from Laduree New York from my friend Jeni... sitting in another precious treasure of mine ... a vintage French salt dip and spoon my sister Jill gave me years ago... it makes a perfect little candy dish...

I am absolutely delighted with how it all turned out... I think we all need a place to sit in quiet solitude... surrounded by all of the beautiful things we love... do you have such a place?... I am wishing that you do... and that like me, you enjoy your precious time spent there... xoxo...

Oh it all is soo pretty ! I do love the old roll top desks . Your room looks so pretty and peaceful !
It turned out stunning! Beautiful additions for a beautiful lady. Thanks again for the jam. It's yummy on wheat toast. EL
That is just beautiful. You really did soften it up and give it a more romantic look. What a great little desk to begin with-made even better with all your pretty things in it- xo Diana
You really have a sweet little place to do what you wish. It's so cozy and inviting. I do agree that we need a special little space of our own where we can shut out the noisy world. Mine is my bedroom, filled with all the things I love, a place to read, write and dream. Thankfully hubby doesn't mind all the feminine touches!
Thanks so much for sharing your little corner filled with loveliness!
XO,
Jane

Hi Julie Marie, I am in love with your desk!, it is so romantic I have been wanting an area like that for quite sometime, my own spot. Your letters wrapped from your father are my favorite, and how you set such sentimental treasures close by, to reflect on, what a beautiful inspiration- Thank you for sharing your lovely desk, I am inspired today Sincerely, Jonny
Hi Julie Marie,
What a beautiful spot to spend some peaceful time enjoying the day. I love your gorgeous treasures displayed so beautifully.
I have a desk very similar that I have owned for a few years. It was already cottage cream and I love it to sit and hand write a letter.
Just the perfectly lovely post.
Lots of love, Celestina Marie
what a beautiful beautiful room and post!
